Rigorous fact-checking is central to Virepedia’s mission. We verify every claim before publication and maintain a culture of accountability.
Scope of Fact-Checking
Every claim in every article is checked before publication, including dates, names, quotes, statistics, and any statements of fact. We do not publish unverified material.
Fact-Check Workflow
Our fact-checkers follow a multi-layered process: first, they trace every claim to its original source. They cross-reference at least two independent sources unless the claim is universally accepted fact. All sources are documented in internal notes. For claims about living individuals, we prioritize official records, legal filings, and direct statements.
Special Categories
For health, death, legal, and relationship claims—categories that can harm reputation or safety—we require documentation from primary sources (e.g., court records, medical reports, birth certificates) or from highly authoritative secondary sources (e.g., major news organizations with direct access). Claims about minors are subject to additional vetting to avoid invasion of privacy.
Independence & Objectivity
Fact-checkers operate independently from the editorial team. They do not report to the author or editor of the article being checked. No decision is based on potential advertising or partnership revenue.
Corrections from Fact-Checking
If fact-checking reveals an error after publication, we follow our corrections policy and update the article immediately. All fact-check records are retained for audit.

Fact-Checker Qualifications & Training
All Virepedia fact-checkers possess a journalism degree or equivalent professional experience, plus specialized training in verification techniques, source evaluation, and identification of misinformation. Our fact-checking team, led by Jonas Weber (Multilingual Fact-Checking Editor), undergoes quarterly refresher training on evolving best practices. For details on team members, see our Team page.
Human-Centered Verification
Every fact-check is conducted by a trained human fact-checker. We do not rely on automated tools or AI to verify claims. Any use of AI for preliminary research is fully disclosed in our AI Disclosure and subject to human review. This ensures accountability and nuance in every check.
Reader Fact-Check Requests
Readers who believe a claim in an article is unverified or incorrect may submit a fact-check request via corrections@virepedia.org. We will investigate and, if warranted, issue a correction or update. All such requests are logged internally and reviewed within 48 hours.
